Willy Tjungurrayi
Brief Biography:

Willy Tjungurrayi was born around 1930 near Lake Mackay, Northern Territory. He is the brother of well-known artist Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi (now deceased) and George Ward Tjungurrayi. When Willy was a young man, he lived in the bush when the family moved to Haasts Bluff in the late 50's. In 1976 Willy moved to Papunya and commenced painting with the Papunya Tula Artists.

Willy paints the 'Tingari Cycle', which relates to the Pintupi area and their creation story. Willy predominantly paints in browns, dusty pinks, oranges and creams. He uses fine lines and dotting, forming concentric circles, each representing various sites and formations. The lines connecting these concentric circles represent the paths or traveling lines between locations.
